3Cr17NiMoV is a high-grade martensitic stainless steel alloy, engineered to offer an excellent balance of corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and wear resistance. Containing chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and vanadium, this steel provides superior performance under aggressive conditions such as high pressure, elevated temperatures, and corrosive media. It is widely recognized as a premium material for manufacturing precision components in chemical, petrochemical, and mechanical engineering industries.
3Cr17NiMoV typically contains chromium (16–18%), nickel (1.5–2.5%), molybdenum (0.8–1.3%), and vanadium (0.2–0.3%), with the remainder being iron and trace elements. The alloying elements collectively enhance corrosion resistance, toughness, and thermal stability while minimizing brittleness.
Key Physical and Mechanical Properties:
Density: 7.75 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: ≥ 980 MPa
Yield Strength: ≥ 850 MPa
Hardness (HRC): 28–36 after heat treatment
Working Temperature: up to 650°C
Elongation at Break: ≥ 12%
This composition makes 3Cr17NiMoV ideal for components that must resist corrosion and oxidation while enduring cyclic stress or mechanical fatigue.
Due to its high chromium and molybdenum content, 3Cr17NiMoV exhibits excellent resistance to various corrosive media, including water vapor, weak acids, alkalis, and salt environments. It maintains its integrity even in oxidizing and reducing conditions.
This steel maintains superior strength and toughness even after heat treatment. The addition of vanadium refines the grain structure, improving hardness and fatigue resistance—making it suitable for parts subject to friction or cyclic loading.
3Cr17NiMoV can operate stably under high-temperature conditions up to 650°C without significant degradation, ideal for applications such as steam turbine components, valve parts, and heat-resistant bolts.
It offers good machinability in its annealed state and can be polished to a high surface finish, which is advantageous for precision mechanical parts and tools requiring a smooth and clean surface.
The alloy’s combination of mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability extends service life significantly, even in demanding operating environments, reducing maintenance frequency and downtime.
Chemical and Petrochemical Industry: Valves, pump shafts, and sealing components exposed to corrosive fluids.
Power Generation: Turbine blades, bolts, and fasteners in steam or gas environments.
Oil and Gas Equipment: Components in drilling, refining, and transport systems requiring high corrosion and stress resistance.
Mechanical Engineering: High-strength wear parts, precision tools, and machinery components.
Aerospace and Marine: Structural and fastening elements exposed to seawater and varying temperature conditions.
3Cr17NiMoV Corrosion Resistant Steel represents the ideal balance of durability, corrosion resistance, and heat tolerance. With its exceptional mechanical properties and long-term reliability, it is an essential material for demanding industries such as energy, chemical processing, and mechanical engineering—ensuring consistent performance and extended operational life even under harsh conditions.
